The Star - 18 May 2014

18 May 2014 - Ms Goo Chui Hoong is one of At 19 Culinary Studio's culinary instructor and she is the good food ambassador with some crafty ideas to make us eat more healthy. As a dietitian, she is alarmed that Malaysia has the highest obesity rate in South East Asia. In order to spread the word on eating healthy, Ms Goo has come up with a cook book "Lite Malaysian Favourites". She believes that going on a diet is not the answer as people tend to go back to their bad eating habits once the diet is off. The way forward is to change the way we prepare and cook our food. Instead of deep frying food in oil which is essentially fat, change to baking it which will use less quantity of oil. For eg. one of the recipes in her new cook book, Baked Banana Rolls (banana rolled in popiah skin and baked) is inspired by Goreng Pisang (fried banana fritters).

"Lite Malaysian Favourites" is more than just your regular cook book. It tells you in each of the recipes how much calories and fat you are going to cut by preparing and cooking it using alternative methods or ingredients. The cook book priced at RM39.90 is available at MPH and major book stores. It is also available online at At 19 Culinary Studio's website eStore.
